I will start with either a Ruger M77 MK2 in 30/06 (the only centerfire bolt action I own), or a Marlin 1895G in 45/70.

Normally till I get my buck I use either my 7x57 or my 30-06 both topped with 4X scopes an El Paso Redfield and a M7 Leupold respectivly. These are never change zero always hit just right rifles.  Once the serious part is over I might just take any rifle I own out to get my doe tags filled.

I'm going to sound like Chuck White here.I start ML season with a 50 Cal.Night Disc topped with a 2.5X Weaver.Regular northern(NY)zone I'll pack my Puma M92 454 with a Williams FP.When the leaves are almost all fallen I'll take Mr.444.
Model 444 Marlin,1970 edition,topped with a Leupold 2X scout.When it's white and bare and in the southern zone a Tikka T3 in 6.5 SE topped with a VXII 3X9.
Then end the seasons with the Night again.

It depends on the weather, where, and how I'm going to hunt. If it's not too cold, probably my 7600 7mm-08.

Dave

Just wondering what the cold has to do with a 7600?  Been thinking about getting a rifle version in 7mm-08 or a carbine in 30-06.

Thanks

M77 in the great .308.  I have many bolt guns, but this is the only big game rifle i hunt with.  I just look at the others.

I bought a 450 Marlin last year and was unsuccesful with it in the field, although I did take 3 other deer and elk with a 7 Rem Mag and a 270. I promised myself I would not use anything else this upcoming season until I bagged one with it. I just got to see what that sucker will do.

Here in eastern NC, probably hunt with a handgun opening day morning (Ruger SRH 44mag or Ruger BH 41mag).  In the evening, it depends.  Might take my Savage 110 with a lam. stock in 243 (if the wife doesn't use it).  If not then probably my Ruger 77mkII stain/lam in 280.  If I wanna walk around, during the day (probably be too warm) then my Remington 760 in 30-06 will go with me.

Opening day, I will be hunting the swamp on a farm in North Florida.  My rifle will be my Marlin 1894S, the cartridge will be my hand loaded .44 Mag, with 270 train Speed GDSP, and 21 grains of H110.  This is a great combo for hunting in heavy cover, with close, quick shots.

O.K. I'm gonna put a kink in the works.I'm gonna start out with my Rem. 1100 with single 0 buck.I'm gonna be on the ground in a beautifull hardwood creek bottom.Alas the wife and daughter will be sitting in their stands watching their feeders shooting a howa 270 and rem mohauk 243 respectively.I wouldn't trade with them for all the gold in china.Upon nearing the rut I will have selected my stand hunting spots and will convert over to my rem 700 bdl 30-06.

That is easy.  In the mangement zone, I hunt on opening day, we are restricted to shotguns,
shooting slugs, black powder, or handguns.  So our quirky law allows me to shoot a Savage Striker,
in .308 Win.  So I shoot a rifle, without a butt stock, and in a 14" long barrel ::)

After opening weekend, I leave the old family farm, in "shotgun" country, and travel
home to "rifle" country.  There I have a terrible time with the decision of which rifle to
hunt with.  I have my father's Rem. 760, in .30-06, my BAR, in .308 Win, my Tikka M695,
in .25-06 Rem., my Savage 16, re-barreled to 6mm Rem, or my Howa, in 300 WSM.  Most often,
I take the BAR, but if the day is sunny, and the shooting is long, I usually take the Tikka.
Or if I am feeling sentimental, I grab Pa's 760.

Is it November yet?

In Illinois, Ruger SRH in .454 Casull.  In Kentucky, I normally use my Savage 110 in 30.06, but I've got a Howa in .243 Winchester that needs to be christened.  Also just got a nice K31 with the walnut stock.  Might use that one.  It would be a kick to take a deer with a 70 year old military rifle.  Haven't shot it yet, but everyone says they are real tack drivers.

Winchester pre-64 M70 featherweight in .30-06 if my position in the hunting party dictates long range shots (more than 200 yds) or Remingtom M742 Carbine in .30-06 if I am positioned for shots under 200 yds. After opening weekend, I'll work in my 7X57 NEF Ultra regardless of range. My family has a 2500-acre ranch in northern California that offers a wide range of shooting conditions and terrain.

That M-700 Remington .300 H&H that I talked about is a damn good shooter! First session at the bench with 200gr Nosler Accubond handloads; 63.5grs IMR-4350 and I put 5 of 'em in an inch. Average muzzle velocity was just over 2,700 fps.

So I'm taking that out this November and I'm gonna drop about a 160" buck... or bigger, God willing.

I'll likely be in heavy cover in Western Maine.
I'll probably start with my 8x57 carbine shooting 175s.
If the weather is sloppy I'll likely lug the peep-sighted 99 in 308 shooting 180 RNs.
If I'm covering a clear-cut I'll use the sporterized 24" 03-A3 shooting 165s.
Too soon to know, but I'll be ready.

Probably by Weatherby Super predator master 7mm-08. Although my full custom 700 7mmSTW and my old faithful m77 30-06 are great choices also.

My deer season will start with a bow , time permitting a short Blackpowder trip. but the bulk of the hunting will happen with a Stevens 200 in 270  I decided I wanted a little less horse power on my non-elk years than my 338 Ruger 77.

Here in La. at my farm I am allowed 16 deer (13w/o antlers.) and because we do not as a rule take over 6 does a yr.(including friends hunting) that is average. I keep 2 does for freezer and spend rest of season looking "Big Boy". Took real nice 10 point last year that was 18 1/2 " inside  190# good deer for south La. Looking forward to 11-18-06!

Bow first, then .50 cal Savage M10 for black powder.  1st choice I think will be the 7x57 Ruger M 77. It belonged to my dad and he recently passed away and its never taken a deer before.

After that I need to take the others out, my 7MM Rem. Mag or my Colt 30/06 Lite rifle.
Will hunt for food.
