Sierra Game King 55 gr' on White Tail
« on: June 12, 2006, 11:09:21 AM »
i asked this on the NEF' forum and got a good answer; but i'd like to see what you have to say.

have any of you used the Sierra 55 gr' Game King (BTHP) in .224 diameter on whitetails with good results?    i've seen it done with Hornady 55 and 60 gr' Spire Points out of a .223.   i've not seen the Game King used.

this is not posted to argue about.   it's posted to ask for experience that you have or know of.

take care,

ss'

I really am not excited about answering your question because I do not want people to believe that I support using such small cartridges.  That said, I have actually seen someone use that exact same bullet, but in a .22-250.  It was a landowners young 9 year old son, and he shot a doe at about 50 yards or so.  I did not see the shot.  All I saw was the doe (about 75 pounds) in the back of the pick-up, and the father said that the shot was right behind the shoulder and that the doe did not run far. Upon cleaning the deer, there were fragments all over the place - kinda messy in there.

Zach'

no endorsement was necessary; but i thank you for the reply.   i'd guess that my friends .22-250 would do the same on a 75 lb. deer.   but he'll be hoping to use it on something larger in West Virginia.

any other posters with some input?

thanks again, Zach'
