Gander Mountain & A-Bolts
« on: June 08, 2006, 03:57:41 AM »
Was returning from a prairie dog shootin' trip yesterday and stopped at the Gander Mountain store in Wichita, KS.  What a store; I've never seen so many rifles under one roof!  And unlike Cabela's and Bass Pro, they're not behind the counter guarded by salespeople.  You can help yourself to any one and try it out for size and fit.

Zachary, I know you're a big fan of the Tikka T3.  After handling a couple, I hope they come out with one for southpaws.  They had a large selection of A-bolts, but I especially liked the look of what they labeled as the A-Bolt II.  There is no A-Bolt II on Browning's web site.  Is this an older model still in stock or a new offering?

The only other Gander Mountain I'd been to was their store in Wilmot, WI, probably 6 years ago.  It was an older, smaller store with the firearms tucked out of reach behind the counter.  It's not that I don't like salespeople, but if I'm not really planning on buying, I feel bad asking them to handle a bunch of guns when there might be paying customers waiting in line for me to finish.

I now have had a Browning A bolt stalker II in .204 for about 5 months now. First a bolt I have ever owned, really did not like the early ones because the stocks looked too much like Weatherbys, but I really like this a bolt. With the short bolt throw and the removable clip under floorplate setup and duratouch stock with palm swell its made me a beliver, and best of all it shoots like a laser and cleaning the barrel is an easy chore its so smooth its like running a patch down a glass tube. :)  :-D
