Scope for CZ550FS in 6.5x55?????
« on: June 04, 2006, 02:25:55 PM »
What is a nice fit for the CZ550FS in 6.5x55 allowing one to confidently take shots out to 300yds, while being nice and compact like the rifle?  Been looking online at the Burris Short Mag scopes, Leupold ultralights and Euro 2X7, and other various 2-7x scopes.  Can't get my hands on all of 'em for firsthand info, so I am turning to you guys.

Thanks,

Jim

I like a 3-9 better because if it is dawn or dusk they catch more light.  I have bothe a Weaver Grand Slam and a Zeiss Conquest both 3-9.  The Zeiss has better optics but not by much.  My older Luepold 3-9 VX III is not any better that the Weaver.  Either one of these scopes is just great!  The weaver grand slam doesn't get a lot of press but I think it is a real winner for the money.  It looks a little more modern and that is not liked by all.  The Zeiss has the european look.  If you hunt at dawn and dusk you will notice the difference between a 3-9 and a 2-7.  Buckfever

You might want to take a look at the specs on the Leupold Varix-1 scope in 4x12x40. I have one and the glass seems fine to me, it is not long like the Burris Fullfield I owned, it weighs in at 13 ounces or so and it allows me to see the bullet holes when busting targets. The best part is, you can pick one up for $249 which should not break the bank. Good Luck ... Tom Purdom :D

I E-Bayed a Vari-X III 1.5-5 for under 300$ new in the box.  I know it's not a high power scope, but I like the looks of the straight tube scopes on the shorter full stock guns.  I think they just look right.  Remember there lots of long range black powder shooters that shoot little tidy groups at 300 yds. without the benefit of any scope.  You can shoot alot better with a small scope than many people give them credit for.

If you can't see it, you can't hit it.
The 6.5X55 is a great cartridge, i've been shooting it for over twenty years.
The quality of Leupold scopes is well known, and their rep for honoring there guarantee is also well known.
I have the 4X12 40mm on mine and I highly recomend it to you.

I also own a CZ 550FS in 6.5x55.   It is fairly new to me, only 100 rounds thus far at the range.

I purchased a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x specifically for this rifle.  I used the factory rings as the Talley rings I purchased were too low for the scope.

I like the Zeiss better than the Trijicon AccuPoint on my 7mm-08 Savage.

However, I have no experience with the Zeiss at 300 yards.
