1983 Remington 700 Classic
« on: June 01, 2006, 05:25:13 PM »
So I am getting this rifle, a 1983 Model 700 Classic in the truly classic .300 H&H caliber. I am buying the rifle for 3 most excellent reasons...

#1 .300 H&H, the first .300 Mag father of all the rest...
#2 1983  Back when Remington QC was top notch.
#3 Because... well just because!!

Funny thing, on the 15th of May I bought a used F250 6.0L diesel 4x4 and the wife informed me that I was not to buy anything else!!

So when I paid for the rifle I used funds from her savings account!!  :-D

I sure hope she doesn't find out!!

Got my rifle the other day. Intercepted the package at the post office. But those dummies still threw in a notice of a package at the post office! I had to lie to my wife as to the package contents, when she quizzed me... I hope God forgives me. I told her it was hunting books.

I've already got some ammo loaded but the darn rifle has no scope!

I've either gotta swap a scope off one of my other rifles or buy a new scope and rings... :?

I told my wife 20 yrs ago that guns are like golf. You can't play the game with just one club.
So far, its still working. 8)

Err I hate to point this out but

   Well it just ain't so

The first was the .375 Belted Rimless Nitro Express to give it it's correct name was introduced in 1912. The Super 30 as it was called did not come along until 1920 and the term Magnum was stolen by some American scribe from the Champagne Industry where it refers to a larger Bottle and applied to the large H&H cases where it appears to have stuck. As an aside therefore we cannot have the WSSM as being a small case it's not a Magnum  ;)

But you have chosen a real classic performer. Good Luck with the wife  ;) I fear you may need it  ::).

Congratulations on getting a fine classic rifle chambered in a grand old cartridge.

I love the 300 H&H. While it is true that the "30 Super" is an offspring of the 375 H&H, it does hold the distinction of being the first 30 caliber belted magnum cartridge. Numerous other 30 caliber "magnums" have followed, but the H&H is still an excellent hunting round.

The Remington 700 Classic is a great platform for the 300 H&H. That rifle should serve you well for a lifetime. My only 700 Classic is a 6.5x55 and she is a real shooter that ain't for sale.

Do you intend to handload for youe 300? It is a cartridge that can really benefit from handloading.

Great gun.....I am sure you will love it. I actually have a 1990 classic 25-06. I am interested in selling it to a friend and was wondering what they are selling for these days. It is outfitted with a 4.5-14 x 40 ao scope also. can you offer any help?

Thanks

Been a while...

Anyway this rifle is a real tack driver. I ended up mounting a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9X40 scope on it. I built loads with the fine 200gr Nolser Accubond and IMR-4350. It's going deer hunting the end of November. I do not expect to recover any bullets from my buck; the good Lord willing I get one.
