What to Do
« on: May 29, 2006, 04:00:17 PM »
Okay, Friday I went and bought a used Remington 700 VSF in .308 and topped it with a Swaroski 6x18...My goal on that day was to look about trading a gun and some cash for a custom 700 in 7-08. Its a very nice gun, very light weight, thumb hole stock, muzzlebrake. Anyway, I'm thinking now I probably should have gotten the 7-08. Would you?

I would prefer  the 7-08, but nothing wrong with the 308! Don't like muzzle brakes though.........

I personally ALWAYS perfect a 30 caliber over a 7mm when it comes to shots under 300 yards.

To me, the trajectories of 308 and 7-08 are VERY similar up to 250-300 yards, so there isn't much difference there.  However, 308 does pack a little heavier punch and can carry heavier bullets.... and not to mention 308 factory ammo is EVERYWHERE and is cheaper than 7-08.

both choices are good, but 308 is the better choice.  You should be happy with what you got :)

My one concern, which I didn't list, was that the .308 weighs in almost 10 pounds once the scope is added.  Its a mighty heavy rifle to be hauling around compared to the custom 7-08.

well, sounds like your unhappy about the gun, not the caliber.  If I was you, I wouldn't trade it in, I would put it on gunbroker.com and sell it.  I never trade in my guns at any gun shop, they always offer you 50%(and even less) of whatever they are worth.  You should atleast get 85-90% of what you payed for it from gunbroker.com

get a ligher gun, tikka stainless light or whatever you like, but I would strongly suggest a 308.

Well, went back in and traded.  The guy I do business with basically gave me what I had in the gun, since I had bought in from him a couple of days ago.  Pretty much even swap......
