Are you asking for caliber recommendations or type of gun?

I'd say a lightweight bolt action in .223 Rem or 22/250 with a 3-9X or 4-12X scope would be ideal.

.22-Hornet or a .22-250, and I'm in agreement with the light bolt action.

Depends on your hunting technique. If "quick" shooting is the action, then the Ruger Frontier shows promise.

Cartridge:
.22-250, .223 (and if you don't mind some pelt damage, then .243 with varmint bullets). - and in that order.

Rifle:
Bolt Action

Brand/model:
Tikka T3 Hunter or Lite or SS.
The new Remington Lite Varmint (although expensive)

I have a 26" heavy barrel .22-250 and a 22" sporter weight .257 Roberts.  The Roberts wins.

Longest shot to date with the Roberts is 479 yards using a 75gV-MAX at just over 3600fps.

My Encore 22-250 is the ticket, topped with a IOR Voldada 3.5X10X56mm scope. Loaded with 55 gr. Nosler ballistic tips.  :D

But you listed this in the bolt action site so I guess I would go with a Tikka T3 Hunter or Lite or SS in 22-250. :D

Turbo... use what your carrying.  In open country with few houses, I like a .308.    When I have a choice,  (the yote is in my back yard) I use a .223 as there are several houses in the hood  and the shots will be 200 yards or less.  When I'm duck or goose hunting I have used a 12 ga. with 3 1/2  shells with good results.   When rabbit hunting I have tried to use a .22  but it gave dismal results.  The most impressive bang flops occurred when elk hunting with a 50 cal. muzzleloader and 385 gr Hornadys. --- good huntin, james
