.357 mag in bolt action?
« on: May 26, 2006, 07:07:16 AM »
Hi. I've been looking for a good plinker that isn't some .22 rimfire. I think that the .357 mag or 45 acp would be good. Are there any bolt actions in these calibers? Thanks. Alec.

I can't think of a bolt gun in 38 spec, or 45 acp, but I know you can find single shot rifles in 38 special. Look at handi rifles. On the other side of price look at MILLER / DAKOTA ARMS Otherwisw you can find nice lever guns in 357 / 38 special  45 acp might be a problem but 44 magnum / 44 special  is not.

Ruger makes the 44 / 77 bolt bolt gun.

You can get a Contender barrel in .357 Maximum, which is a bit too hot for revolvers. It cuts the top strap with the hot gasses.  8)

I can't remember if any (Big Time) Manufacture made a Bolt Action in a 357 or 45ACP. Though this is interesting:

I've also heard about ones that modified Mauser actions to do the same.
NEF/H&R as well as Rossi has made 357's in single shot. Rossi dropped theirs, and NEF/H&R only sells the 357 barrel in the barrel program. Just another option you might not thought of.

Why not a Marlin leveraction  in 38-357  they will shoot 2 inches at 100 yards, but be warned, leveractions are very addictive.
