They are both fine rifles.  Personally, I think that the CZ is a better value.  Hold them both to see how they feel to you.  No one but yourself can make that comparison.  They will both perform admirably, but you will shoot better with the one that "feels right"!

Best of luck to you Alec, and be careful out there! :D

As said above, both rifles are great rifles. The CZ is going to have a lot better trigger on it, it will be fully adjustable as well as being a single set trigger.

CZ is the way to go!

Rugers; I have shot older ones and they were ok, once you installed a recoil pad, had the trigger worked on and tweaked the pressure point on the barrel.  The scope mounting systems are almost equal but leaning towards Ruger.

The following is an inflamatory statement, check the facts for youself.
Don't enrich Berratta by buying a Tika with a two piece bolt, cost cutting profit enhancing rifle.  They took a fine line of rifles, cut corners gave one to every gunwriter in exchange for a good review and have duped the public.
If you take an older Tika and compair it to a new one you will see what I mean. Thankfully they have had the good sense to leave Sako alone for now.

BS. The Tikka is okay, it is not better. Personal preference and bias...

Tell us about the split barrel problems Tikkas' had.

Don't forget to mention the plastic trigger guard and such...no thanks!

I wouldn't mind having a 595 continental in 6.5 X 55 though

only stainless Tika's had that problem, and it was fixed.I have 2 CZ's a 6.5x55 and a .458 lott and have had to replace the stock on the .458Lott after 6 or 7 shots it cracked . the 6.5x55 is ok but not as good as my 1974 Remington 700 BDL. The Tika's shoot perfect right out of the box ,great trigger and the bolt is so smooth you won't belive it till you try one . I have only 1 Tika in .243 and I will have more in the future .

Ok so you think Tika's are the be all end all   woo hoo    Now it's time to petition Graybeard for your own little Tika forum and leave us poor miss-guided CZ fans in our ignorance.

I've owned both, more Rugers than CZs and to be honest, I like the CZs handsdown. I own the CZ 550 American now, in 7x57mm, and love the darn thing. I also own a CZ 527 Lux/American, and feel it is a real gem. I have owned four Rugers, all in .284 Winchester or 7x57mm, and while they have been fine rifles, I feel that the CZs I own now are better. Not to hijack this thread, but why is it when someone asks a specific question like how does the CZ and Compact Ruger compare, does someone feel he has to interject an opinion which has absolutely nothing to do with the question which was asked? I see that so much in this, and other forums. Tom Purdom

  Go with the CZ.
I have 2 CZ's a 9.3x62 550 American and a 550 FS 6.5x55, both will shoot under 1 inch at 100 yards right out of the box and the 9.3 will shoot less than 1/2 inch.   I have never been able to get any of the M77 Rugers to shoot very well.  That's not to say they won't or can't, I just find them mediocre in the accuracy dept.

  CZ all the way.

It's not even a close call.  CZ over Ruger any day.

However, I would pick Tikka over CZ, but that would be a close call.

By my way of thinking there simply is no comparison.  Take the CZ.  The "Lawyer Trigger" on the Ruger needs to be replaced or otherwise be worked on and the CZ 550 has a single set trigger that is nothing short of awesome.  I've heard it said that one Ruger might be a shooter but the next one might not.  I've had two Rugers and neither was a shooter, at least not out of the box anyway.  If I could shoot better, the CZ would be capable of driving nails. And, the CZ comes with rings just like the Ruger does so there isn't anything to be gained by buying the Ruger over the CZ but much to be gained by buying the CZ.  No cost for a trigger or a trigger job and more accurate to boot, at least in MY experience.
