Chassepot load questian
« on: May 22, 2006, 04:28:32 AM »
I hope this is the right place to post this. I recently acquired an 1866 Chassepot rifle; it has an almost virgin bore and only veary light pitting on the surface metal. What I am looking for is some loading data for it. I have a link to a French site, that has instructions on how to make cartridges, but it is kind of confusing as far as powder charges go, if any one could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Try posting on the following forum > http://p102.ezboard.com/fparallaxscurioandrelicfirearmsforumsfrm60

I have a brief article from 1867 on the Chassepot on my web site at > http://www.researchpress.co.uk/firearms/france/chassepot.htm

There have been several articles published in the last 20 years or so in the UK on shooting the Chassepot (and the Prussian Dryse Needle Gun) but I haven't found any on-line resources.
