I love my Handis  ...but I do enjoy the bolts as well. The Stevens is a good choice for many reasons.
-It's a repeater, holding more than 1 shot (if you feel you need that)
-It's a Savage..noted all the time for excellent OTB accuracy, as well as a great platform for custom work, as aftermarket barrels are very easily availible and in more calibers you could ever want. Not to mention the ease of changing them out.
-It's at a great price. Around the same as a H&R Ultra with Laminated stocks.
-Lots of interchangable parts with other Savage rifles.
-Easier to adjust the trigger yourself. The NEF/H&R is a little more complicated with more parts and pins to put back to gather...or just get it done free when you send in to get another barrel
And the NEF/H&R..
-Lots of calibers availible to you from the get go. Not to mention shipped to you for about $108 for most.
-The price is excellent...about $200 for a new one, even less for a used one.
-Many shoot great out of the box too. If they don't you can make them do so very easily. Besides, who doesn't like playing with a new toy?
-Simple, versitle, reliable, affordable... all good things.
-Also lots of interchangable parts and barrels. I have noted that even with used barrels they match up with little fuss if any for that matter.
-Compact. Take out the 4 inches or so out of a bolt action, and even with a 26"barrel it's still shorter. I like that. Also make for a good balanced rifle.
-If you decide to change calibers, you won't have to change the bolt head, as you won't have one. And you have options for rimmed cases like the 357, 44Mag, 30-30, and 45-70, .
Lots of good stuff from all sides. It's your choice.
