Taurus Inventory Problems
« on: May 17, 2006, 08:05:08 AM »
What is the problem with the inventory of Taurus handguns?  In March I went to my local dealer to order a Taurus 22 revolver, plunked down my deposit and they said they would call me when it came in.  A few weeks later I stopped by to see if there were any delivery developments and they said their distributor had zero Taurus 22 revolvers in stock.

After a few phone calls they told me that there was a shipment comming from Brazil but it was held up in customs....that was about a month ago.  Yesterday I stopped again and they said their distributor still has zero Taurus 22 revolvers in stock.

Just wondering if my dealer's supply chain is the real problem, or is it Taurus that is having the problem.

No reason your dealer could not have called or checked on line to let you know who had them and who didn't.  what are you after and I'll make a quick check.

I don't have any insight other than that I've noticed a similar supply shortage here in the last couple of months.  One of my local shops just got a bunch in last week, so it may be getting better.  They had a new Gaucho that I just couldn't resist....

Shermbob...I was looking for a blue 9 shot 22 LR revolver with a 4 or 5 inch barrel.  I think the model number is 94B4for the 4" model, 94B5 for the 5 inch model.  The price they quoted was $269.

Roudy   I find the 4" model in stock at Jerry's and Davidson's. You may want to suggest looking there.

If you think the inventory problems are something just wait until you have the gun in hand and see the quality and customer service problems they have. I've given up on Taurus completely and won't even consider one anymore.

One of the local dealers here in San Antonio was telling
me the same thing about Taurus. They are having production
problems, as has been stated here already.
Point is, this info is coming from more than one source, so
it must be true.

Taurus production/delivery schedules
I contacted Taurus about the lack of availability of certain models.  Their response was that the factory in Brazil staggers production of certain models; they'll make a bunch of one model then stop, then make a bunch of another model, and so on.  When the distribution channel runs dry of a particular model then it will be scheduled for production again.

The model I asked about was the 941SS - a stainless 22 WMR 8 shot revolver and was told that it would be in production by the end of May and available from US distributors by mid-June.

I have no way of independently verifying the accuracy of the above... but FWIW, there it is.

I bought a new 24/7 handgun from Taurus a while back.I had to send it in for repair 2 weeks after I had it because it was failing to hit the primers hard enough to ignite the load. I have been waiting over 10 weeks and am still waiting for them to supposedly replace the firing pin. I think Taurus has a lot of serious problems when it comes to producing any product that is worth shipping anywhere. Order a Ruger or a Smith and you won't have any future headaches caused by Taurus's lack of marketing and production skills.
