I am a ruger man for the most part.  They stand by their product, and I have never had any problems with any Ruger I have owned (except for an accuracy problem with a Mini 14 RR).  The most accurate rifle I own is a Ruger K77VT in .220 swift.  I have never had a rifle of any make or model outshoot me at the range, yet (yes I do undersstand it varies from rifle to individual rifle).  I trust my rugers, and the Army taught me that is all that counts.

I would have to say remington. I have always had excellent accuracy out of mine and have never had a problem.

I own at least one of all of them.  I've always been partial to Remingtons.  Rugers shoot, but often need new triggers.  The Vanguard I won in 300 Wby is sub-moa out of the box with factory ammo.  I guess the right answer is the one that you like best.  Can't really go wrong!

Don't have a Vanguard, but do have a Remington and several Rugers.  I like both but think the Rugers are the better built gun, even if the triggers sometimes need tweaking.  Haven't seen a Ruger that wouldn't shoot well and the triggers are very, very easy to touch up.

the Vanguard is generally a very good rifle.   but with them culling the best of them for their new MOA' variation that means we have less of a chance of finding an "exceptional" Vanguard in the standard model.    that's just simple arithmetic really.

Rem's, in my experience, are equipped with decently adjustable triggers and are accurate as all get-out -- from what our handloads have accomplished with them.

but, for a bad-weather, knock-around rifle i'd pick the Ruger or the Vanguard in stainless ahead of the Remington stainless.    And i'd take the Ruger first because of its lighter weight.   my blued Vanguard is heavy!

I think the Ruger in walnut and blue is the best lookin' and the others ain't any better at shootin' so with me its the MKII all the way.

Love my Weatherby Vanguard 'Red Mist' Varminter in .223 .
22" Heavy Barrel, and synthetic stock.
Shooting around half M.O.A. with my handloads.
Trigger is a bit heavy at 3lbs+, but drop-in Timney replacement is available.
Great little gun. Solidly built. I'm very pleased with it.

It's great when we weigh up all the odds and make a decision as to what to buy, and it all works out.

I guess you need to decide what you want it for and what it needs to do, to be acceptable, and of course, how much you want to spend.

Remingtons have a great reputation, and Ruger owners seem to be pretty much 'one-eyed',
but unfortunately, these days, any mass-produced rifle is a potential 'lemon' !

Buy a reputable Mnfrs product from a reputable dealer, and you shouldn't go wrong.

Over the years I have had the three brand of rifles.  Some  new rifles need a tune up to get them to shoot good groups.  Glass bedding the action, free floating the barrel , putting a barrel pressure pad into the fore arm, reducing the trigger pull,and haveing the bolt locking lugs lapped can make some pore shooters into fine rifles. I got a used rifle that all it needed was to have the copper cleaned out of the barrel to get it to shoot acceptable groups.

It will be a tough call between the Remington and the vanguard.  Ruger would not be my choice.

Add Tikka to your list and the answer is easy - Tikka.

Well it's not quite that simple...

If you are talking new then it is the Ruger. Best new value today IMHO.

If however you want to talk about Remington Pre-1990 then absolutely I would take one of those. The Model 700 used to be such a nice rifle. :?
 
But I shy away from their current "quality".

I bought an MK77 as soon as they came out with the LH version, I waited for yrs!!! and it would drive tacks all summer long, the Dec. would come with sub 39% temps and I could'nt hit the broadside of a barn at 50 yds, never could figure out what was wrong with the rifle! got disgusted and sold it to someone else and wished them luck!!!!!!!!

It's all about the action bedding. Out of box Rugers are often finicky due to inconsistent bedding. A buddy of mine has had a number of those M77's (I have never owned one personally) and he has become an expert on glass bedding actions, simply due to those Rugers. With proper bedding and handloading he has always figured out those rifles, and made all of them accurate.

I currently have a Rem., Ruger, and Howa (Weatherby) all in .308 for a direct comparison.  The Rem. does rather well, the Ruger is outstanding and I'm still working on the Howa.  If I had to grab one today to go hunting (or for any other reason) it would be the Ruger.  But keep in mind, you can have two identical rifles form the same company and one will do well while the other is just so-so.  As a habit, I usually adjust the trigger, re-crown, and bed each and every rifle I plan on keeping.

I like Rugers.  Mine have all given great accuracy and perfect reliability.

:D  I haven ever owned a Vanguard. Handled one yesterday and they changed their plastic stock and frankly feels as bad as the Savage to me. I was rally disappointed. I had a Ruger MKII and liked it very much, but for my pennies i'll take the Remingtons all day. My favorite rifle is my wood stock ADL in 270Win. It has a 3-9x50  Scopechief and was putting 3 shoots in 3/4 of an inch with Federal blue box 130's. Trigger is crisp at 3#. My next rifle will be a 700 BDL in 06 with my scopes twin on top. I agree get what fits your fancy all are good rifles. Jess
