CZ 452 or Remington 504
« on: May 03, 2006, 08:42:18 PM »
I am looking for a good .17 caliber for my son as a varmit gun.  Am a Remington fan at heart, have had great shooters with my 700's in the past.   But I hear good things about the CZ.   Price of a 504 Remington is up to 500+ bucks......whereas the CZ 453 is about 369.00 ( or am I low)
Big question, " Is the Remington worth 150 bucks more....that I could spend on optics"??   I know I know.....I will hear alot about "personal preference".that isn't my question.....I'd like to know which one is the best bet for the $$...period....

I bought my CZ 452 for $300 about a year and a half ago and it was the best $300 spent on a rifle. It's accurate, all-steel and just plain feels right. I too am a Remington fan but couldn't justify spending $200+ more for a Remington when the CZ had everything I wanted _and_ was accurate. Check out the CZ section on rimfirecentral.com and see what those guys are saying about them.

My advice would be to buy the CZ 452 instead of the 453. You can change out the trigger spring (see my thread on the trigger job) and it will be a very sweet trigger and every bit as good as the 453's adjustable. You will get more gun with the 452 over the Remi  - this is just my opinion of course.

a cz will smoke a remmy , and i hate saying that about an American company. Its true , though.  I go to gunshops and the like a lot, one of the places I go is gander Mnt.  today ,in one store, i saw 2 used remmy 504's for sale, i have never seen a used 22 cz, not at gander, not collector's,  not fountain, not any of the usual places I go.

Well, to answer my own post.....I ended up getting not one , but TWO CZ 527's ..one I bought for my son , in a .204 varmint....walnut and blued ....a GREAT shooter...and my wife surprised me with one , same gun ..after I came home and raved about how well his shot...no recoil, and so smooth.
I agree , I love my Remmy 270 ADL deluxe.......but the CZ with the single set trigger......and less than advertised groups.....well...I am a convert

It would be very hard to pass up a CZ 452 with nice wood.  I like some Remington rimfires and will not sell the 541T that I have, but the 504 hasn't impressed me much or at all.  I like that the magazines aren't entirely plastic like in my 541(which is the only thing that I dislike about it)

I have a 17 HM2 CZ 452 American.  It is probably my favorite rimfire ever.  If it is not windy it will shoot 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards.  All I did was order a Eric Brooks trigger kit.  It really seems to like the remington 17 hm2 shells(they are made by Eley).
