L frame grips
« on: May 01, 2006, 01:01:56 PM »
I have an older 686 that had the over sized wooden S&W grips. They looked real nice but never did fit my hand quite right. I really had to work at finding that comfortable position. I was up in Kittery Maine and bought a set of used Houge [ black rubber] grips [for $7.00] I took the gun with the new grips to the range...WOW what a difference! Every time you pick up the gun you have  perfect hand position and tighter groups.....but.....they sure are ugly.

I love L Frame revolvers. I agree with you about the rubber Hogue grips- effective, but not much to look at. One way I have solved that problem is to get wooden Hogues for my L Frames. They have the same shape as the rubber jobs, but look great too. Various woods are available, check them out. The cost is more for wood, but it's worth it to me.

The rubber grips are nice, but when I ccw my 686 the rubber tends to hangup on everything...too tacky...my elk grips on my single action are perfect for ccw...but on a single action the grips shape slips...a double doesn't...How is the recoil with the wood grips.
