Savage 116 conversion to 35 whelen
« on: April 29, 2006, 09:36:55 PM »
Hi
I started looking around to find a savage barrel chambered in 35 whelen but was not able to find it. Midwayusa do not carry Adams& Bennett in this calibar and are unable to order it. I tired savage shooters site, there are a couple of links for barrels manufacturers but did'n see this caliber on thier product list.

Does anybody knoe where to get a stainless barrel in this caliber? I was looking at this option in luei of selling it. I guess I might have to after all

Thanks

I take it your 116 is already chambered for a variant of the .30-06 if not .30-06 itself?

Did you try looking into having the existing bbl rebored?  I don't know if A&B offers the Whelen in SS.  If you have it rebored you could then possibly specify a twist rate (like 1:12").

Yes its a 30-06, I guess I never considered reboaring. Someone suggested ER Shaw for barrels, I'm going to look them up.

I used the blue steel A & B from midway...not even close to a  match but the price was right & it shoots!!! It is what A & B calls a magnum contour in 35 Whelen...you can try to get a local guy to plate it with a satin nickel finish...after waiting about 90 days for what he told me would be a two week job...I pulled the work assembled the gun & shot it...Sometimes things just go that way...The other option is a custom SS barrel if you have to have a perfect match...The nice thing is you can have many barrels for that action...So if one is blue, so what...mike in ct
