10FP: Failures to Eject.
« on: April 26, 2006, 05:24:29 PM »
I have a Savage 10FP in 308 Win.  One of the problems I encountered last year occured after a case failure (due to factory ammo reasons, not the gun.)  Needless to say, it really did a number on the extractor claw.  The case split just in front of the rim, I believe where the claw would hold around the rim.  The main effects afterwards were a pile of ejecta launched into the mechanism, and some material was seared off the claw.  Easy enough, I ordered a new claw and ball detent for it; but now I am encountering the same problem again a few months later.  I don't know if the cases are now the cause (rims worn?), or if the claw is just a poor design.  I have reloaded these shells for the last time ( about the 4th or 5th time; they are LC brass) as a couple have had incipient separations, thankfully not completely around.  These are not max loads I have been using; more like middle of the road. Anyone here have any ideas to spill?  Thanks in advance.

Patroit;

A friend of mine and myself both just ordered Model 10FP's in .223. Both  of  us are experiencing the same thing. Trouble with extraction. Seems to hold true with reloads and Winchester brass more than others. Looks to me a design flaw more than anything else.
Just thought I would let you know.

De41mag, thanks for your input.

Does anyone else also have this same ejection problem?  Does it seem to be a common design flaw, or did we simply wind up with the lemons?

Have been shooting my 10fp in .223 for a little better than a year now no problems of any kind with about 500-600 rounds down range.
