Breechplug

I was just wondering what the breechplug on the Huntsman is made of? I want to have one made at a tool and die shop that doesn't require me to use the carriers. Is this possible? Any info would be great. Thanks in advance.

Mine is made from what looks like the standard firearm stainless, which is not really totally stainless.  I would not be afraid of a plug made from any good quality freely machining stainless.  The plug will be a lot stronger than any part of the rifle.  The older Huntsmen had breach plugs that were not even threaded, they were just pushed in and sealed with an "O" ring, that ended after a couple of people shot them selves in the head with the breach plug when opeining the rifle after a hang fire.  Larry

You may have somewhat of a difficult time removing the primer from the breech plug not using a carrier.  I have occasionally had a hard time getting the primer out of the carrier let alone what you are proposing to do.  Just a thought.

Like bubba says, Precision Rifle in Manitoba makes a .25 ACP breech plug in both Huntsman/Sidekick sizes. (5/8" and 7/8").

I have the breech plug for my Huntsman and would reccommend it to anyone that wants almost no blowback and easy finger and thumb removal of spent primed cases.

If you make a 209 plug without carriers you will need a tool to pry out spent primers.

The .25 ACP brass and small rifle primers are actually both cheaper than say Knights Full Plastic Jackets and 209 primers for comparison. If you buy the brass in quantities of 500 (not from PR but a online sporting goods dealer like Midway), they are way cheaper than Knights FPJ's and you can only buy the FPJ's in 100's. The brass can also be de-primed cleaned and reprimed if you want to deal with that. A good media tumbler might be in order for cleaning the brass, as I haven't found a good alternative yet. For the price, I just discard them for now.

I would imagine a Tool and Die Shop might charge you a bit for tooling up to make one plug, unless you know someone that does it personally.

How does that .25 ACP breech plug work? I know you have to buy a press to put the primers in the brass after that do you just put the .25 ACP brass into the into the breechplug like you would a 209 primer? Any info would be great. Thanks in advance Chad.

This is really all you would ever need if you don't already have a press. This is a hand primer, a shell holder and a punch for de-priming if you want to reuse the brass.

That should help answer your questions, you can put the .25 ACP case in the back of the plug just like loading a cartridge and it comes out without any tools, just your thumb and fore finger will do.
