I would like to build a custom rifle sometime soon. One of my favorite rounds is the 450.I would like it to have a 18 1/2 in. barrel.Any idea what bolt action would work with out having to build a custom action.Would it be easier to use the #1 with a custom barrel? Thanks for any info.

I looked at a Ruger No. 1 in .45-70 that was in stainless and had the laminated stocks on it. It had a short 22 inch barrel IIRC and was the coolest looking rifle that I have laid eye on in a while. I didn't care too much for the laminated wood stocks but if I were to get my hands on one I think one of these would look great with some nice reddish claro walnut.
I believe that you can take a .450 chamber reamer to a .45-70 and get your .450 Marlin in no time.

I get warm fuzzies over this one. :-)

I"m in the process of having a 450 bolt action rifle built. Any action suitable for a belted magnum case will work just fine for the 450. Many have been built on Remington Model 700 actions, but 77s, and 70s will do nicely. Mine will be on a P 14 Enfield action because that is what I happened to have available. Good luck with that project, a 450 rifle is a fine thing!

I built a .450 on a M48 yugo action with a takeoff barrel from a Pedersoil sharps carbine.
I think that I had to remove about 1/2" from the breech in order to completely clean the chamber with the .450 reamer.
The work on the feed rails wasn't too difficult and I scout mounted an EER burris on it.
My loads are the factory load equivalent and I get similar velocities.
Gun shoots fantastically well and is great with the 22"barrel.
I will eventually put a standard compact scope on it as the gun is accurate enough to use the extra X.
Good shooting.

Hi, Dave,
I have been thinking of the same. and was wonering if an M95 might work? I haven't tried the cartridge in the bolt yet, but think a strait pull rifle in 450 Marlin might be fun. The 280 AI is a tack driver, thanks.
