Honestly I've not owned a .22 LR rifle in at least the last 35-40 years that won't shoot tiny little groups. Just pick the one you like, select the ammo it seems to favor and any of them should do pretty close to 1/2" at 50 yards if scoped.

Thanks Graybeard. Do you have any suggestions as to which one may be a little better than the rest? What can you tell me about the CZ?
              Thanks,

I have one of the CZs in .17 HMR but haven't even put the scope on it yet much less fired it. The Remington 541-T if you can find one is as good and as accurate a rifle as I've ever seen. I sold mine awhile back for $450 which is about the going price used these days. We still have the wife's to use if I need one. I can highly recommend them and they are usually to be found on the gun auction and sales sites.

My old Weatherby MKXXII won a lot of trophies when I was competing it in NRA Small Bore Rifle matches. Not made in a lot of years but super accurate. The Marlin's bolt or lever are finely accurate guns and are still being made. The never ones have pretty nice triggers even.

I have a rem model 572 fieldmaster pump, and it's a real straight shooter.  Just last year I bought a henry golden boy in .17HMR, and that thing could shoot a tick off your dog at 100 yards, ok, i dont know about that, specially because I use open sights... but its a real straight shooter.  I would like to try one of those henrys in .22LR.  But the 572 pump gets my nod, always loved that rifle.

The CZ and Savage are both excellant values and highly accurate. The CZ is prettier and smoother. I'm not sure it's more accurate after spending some quality time with a new Savage MK II .22LR.

The current crop of "target" rifles is probably as good as it has ever been, but it is not a crowded genre by any means.  Currently Savage is making a Mark I single shot target model and a Mark II clip fed version with the Mark II having more options.  In the CZ lineup there is the 452 and 453 varmint models.  I don't believe Marlin currently has a heavy barrel model in .22 LR, but they do in .22 WMR and .17HMR.  All of the above would be good shooters unless you just get a dog (not likely).

The Sako rimfire rifles that were introduced in the 80's (or before) were the first that I can remember for advertised high quality. I knew a guy who had one in fact and ask him if it would do one ragged hole at 100yds. Not with this scope, was his reply. This is just my .02 that if you spent a lot for the rifle, you will need to spend a lot for a scope also.

You might want to check out odcmp web site for used trainers. I haven't recently checked them out but if they have any in stock you can pick one for almost a song.

I can't speak as to how it shoots but Savage offers the Model MARK II-FVT with Peep Sights -- now with AccuTrigger.  A target style bolt gun. Check it out at: http://www.savagearms.com/markiifvt.htm

I got my youngest a Mark II left hand youth gun that shoots ok. Haven't had it out much to really know since the winter has been pretty tough. And it still pretty big for him. He's so used to the right hand bolt on his Chipmunk that the Savage confuses him.

You might look around for an old Remington 513 (I think) or a used Anchutz in the moderate target style ( I want to say Model 64) but its been a loooooong time since my highschool rifle club days.
