Well I've decided that I'm going to purchase these items but I'm having another problem altogether. I would like to get a bipod for it also at the same time but I'm not sure which one it is that I should buy. I'm looking at the Harris models as my research has led me to believe that these are the best. Here's my problem. How tall do I get this thingamajig? Which model would go best with the Choate fore end? I'll be using it off of the bench and from prone. Any help is greatly appreciated.

For bench work, I'd get the 9-13" fixed as opposed to the swivel, it works for prone also. Be sure to order the bipod adapter or you won't have anything to mount the bipod to!

parajoe, not to step on Quick's toes but when I got my Varmint stock for my 17 HMR the bipod thingy came with it. I am using a Harris knock-off, I think from Caldwell or Stoney Point. Got it from the local Gander Mountain store but Eabco.com has them as well. Rather short, intended for bench use but no reason you couldn't get a taller one for field use from them as well.

Don't quote me on the maker of my 'pod, but there are cheaper one's than Harris.

Granted, things may have changed since my order last year but I got a bi-pod thingy with my order of fore-end and buttstock, varmint version. I will do business with Choate again.

No toes stepped on, :lol: Choate doesn't say the adapter comes with the stock on their web site, they list it as a separate item just like the cheek rests that don't come with it, that's why I mentioned it, just as a heads up. The adapter comes with a complete rifle from H&R, tho.

Like I said mine came with the adapter when I ordered both the fore-end and buttstock.

Times do change and I hope parajoe gets the answers he is looking for.

I own a harris and a knock off that looks identical. But the nock off is cheaper a bolt acually broke on me while shooting prarie dogs. I know harris is more money but I would go with it, besides I have seen them sell on ebay for $70 if you wanted to re-sell it.

I own 3 choate set, an old version and 2 which have front and rear swivel + a locking "nut" on the rear pod!.
All bought thru Brownells and came with adaptor.

I own also two bipod, Harris 6-9 and 9-13, model with leg notchs.

HBBRM 6-9" (leg locked at 6") really low on the bench !.

When shooting from a bench, i use front leg notch and a rear wood block 3-4-5" and the infinite adjust of the rear pod to set the rifle :

You may see the front and rear swivel of the new version and with a little imagination the blocking nut (sorry, if someone have the right expression, he is welcome.)

HBLM 9-13" , like Tim, is fairly high wood block is mandatory even with the shortest adjustement.

Leg notch are 1" spaced and look like :

The bipod is tighned on the adaptor and it is loose on the sides so it had a little roll. I use 2 piece of wood to tighten the mount :

Great pics :agree: I also use a small block or something the like with mine.
