If you are talking about the head,  I have had a shoulder mount from one and a European mount for another.

If you are talking about the meat, trophy hogs aren't the best eating but are edible (at least in the 175 to 225lb range). I take the meat and soak it in ice water for a few days, draining and replenishing the water each day. I save the front quarters for smoking, the tenderloins and backstraps for cooking and take the rest to have sausages and links made.

Doug,

Really enjoyed the tour of your trophy room.

I keep telling the wife that we need to raise the roof over the garage so I can have a trophy room, but she isn't buying it yet.  :-)  Actually I don't have much to display yet, but I'm working on it.

Hey Elmer,

Keep work'n on it!  There were times when my taxidermy bill looked like a car payment!!!  Later this fall I'm going to add a buffalo and maybe a buckskin colored TX Dall.  I'm still waiting for 2 fallow mounts and have NO IDEA what I'm going to do with the brown bear, alaska moose and caribou I plan to hunt in the fall of 2008.

Such problems!!!!!!   :)

Doug,

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm starting to feel the pinch. Tonight I'm picking up an Axis and Fallow from the taxidermist. I also have a Blackbuck and Whitetail at the taxidermist and a Bobcat in the freezer.

never was much on mounting trophys. most ive done with a hog is keep the skull. I hate to waste money i could spend on guns and loading on mounting animals. As far as the meat goes i try to shoot pigs that go around 200 lbs. Sows preferably and lately just bone the meat like I would a deer.

JeffG,

That's a great looking hog.  I'm looking at mine on the wall right now, and I'm wishing he wasn't black.  Mine was 187 pounds, how much did yours weigh?  More importantly, was he as tasty as mine?

Doug

I looked at the 7x57 on your web.  Don't let the"experts" tell you it is an obsolete cartridge.  I have a friend that had one customed by Guncraft in Ruskin, Florida.  He loads with barnes bullets and loves it.

The rifle went to afghanistan and has confirmed kills out ot 700 yards.  There is tremendous potential.

That looks to be a Chilean Mauser from the crest that is stamped on the reciever...7x57 is a good round but not obsolete...You got a good deal on the rifle regardless. The M1 garand was gonna be a 7x57, but Mcarrthur said no since the already had millions and millions of 30/06 ammo in supply.

So far, all I've done is keep the skulls.  Once the critters have cleaned them up, I paint em' and put em' on display in the barn next to the hangin' rack.  I have several in white, one in silver galvanized (umm...we were out of white), one camo (still ain't bought no white) one waiting to be painted, and a couple in the gully being processed by bugs.
