I was looking at one of these at a local sporting goods store for $479 new. I was just curious as to everyones opinion on this gun. Also I have heard that you aren't supposed to shoot very many .357 loads through a Smith and Wesson gun or you can loosen it up. That is one thing I have heard is good about Ruger... they are built like bank vaults.

Man I love my mod 60 3" adj sights. Yes rugers are tough and built like tanks. I know I had 3 or 4 of them.I still likes the little J frame, Heck if you have any problems you can alwys call smith up they will issue a call tag you can't beat smit and marlin for outstanding service. Get it and pack some 38's in it you will be one happy camper. If you go 3" the galco holster called the Phoenix lined sportsman  holster # PHX164 is sweet you can wear it strong side or crossdraw. It will run you approx $96.95 Pluss uncle sam. I hope this helps!

:D I have the model 60-9 in .357.  It is an excellent gun for carry and with the CT laser sights is fairly accurate out to about 35-40 yards.  As fopr shooting loose, I have owned many S&W .357s  and have never had one shoot loose.  It may be possible if you hundreds of rounds through it each day, but with normal use it will last a lifetime.  Keep in mind, this gun (the model 60) is designed as a carry/self defense gun, it is not a target gun or intended to take a large number of rounds at each shooting.  I shoot mine several times a year, but rarely shoot more than a box of ammo (50) at a time.

The Ruger is also a nice gun, but I don't think it is any better than the Smith.  Both have their good points, both have weak points.  Go with what ever feel best to you!

I have two Model 60 Smiths, both in .38 Special.  I have fired a lot of heavy +P loads through the years, with no ill effects.
