I'm somewhat new to the boards. What I like to know is,I have a couple
of Winchesters model 670s.I try to find something out  on these guns
but I'm haveing no luck. Are these well made or are they a sub-standard
Winchester? The actions seem pretty good and they shoot real nice. Why
isn't these talked about more?or is it because I bought these in the early '70s?
I'm not in VietNam anymore,so get someone else to walk point.('69-'70)

As far as I know the 670 was a Model 70 barreled action with a hardwood stock and blind magazine.  I know my nephew had one in 30-06 and a friend had one in 243 and they both were quite accurate rifles.  My FIL also had one in 243 and he liked it very well.
Good Shooting,
George

I recall seeing them for sale at K-Mart  in the 70's for $159.00 with a 4X scope.

I've noticed that current prices for them seem to be inconsistant, perhaps due to the hoopla with Winchester.  I've recently seen them from $200-$450 and the conditon doesn't seem to have an influence on the price.

Also, I've seen more 670's for sale in the past 2-3 months then I've seen in recent years. Again, I suspect folks are trying to capitalize due to whats going on with Winchester.

I've heard them categorized as the "poor man's Mod 70", but I don't think that lable means they are any less then gun.  Just as Mr. Foster stated, they had hardwood, rather than walnut and a blind magazine.

They are a very good deer rifle.  A friend and his dad had to send theirs back because of a safety issue.  They developed a bad habit of going bang when the safety was released.  Winchester repaired the problem.  I notice that Winchester still has it's web page up.  You might send them an e-mail with your serial numbers to see if there is a problem.  The problem may have been with one production run.

I would use extra caution because of this known issue.  Rather safe then sorry.

I had a 670 and it shot well but the magazine was screwed up and would not feed, even after multiple attempts to repair it.  30.06 rounds would pop up prematurely, flip sideways and "stovepipe."

How many chamberings did they make the 670 in?  Every one that I've ever seen on Gunbroker or the like has always been .30-06, but I know they must have made a few more than that.
