Camo paint questions
« on: April 03, 2006, 06:09:39 AM »
I'm considering a do it yourself camo paint job for a varmint rifle. Wal Mart has spray paints in camo colors that will bond with plastic, which would take care of the stock. What about metal parts - is there a  paint that will bond with them or would I have to reapply the paint from time to time? I know there are commercial camo jobs but they are pretty spendy.

Lilab,
I painted a 788 Rem with the Walmart paint and it stuck to the metal as good as it did the Ramline stock but it doesn't have a highly polished metal.  Its been on about five years and has worn some on the bolt handle, grip and forearm but still on the barrel. I did not paint it solid and used the black and blue as a background.  I think I cleaned the gun with alcohol pads prior to painting. I only used the tan color on mine.

Thanks, James. I'll give it a go. Guess I could always touch it up or repaint if it wore through.
