I have a friend that has a model 415SS in 41 magnum with the 2.5 inch ported barrel. I would say this handgun is in 95% condition. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it might be worth. He said he might take $300.00 for it. It appears that his wife might have fired a couple of boxes of ammo through it. Aslo what kind of factory ammo will this handle, meaning like Cor-Bon, or even Federal Cast Core. If I buy it I might carry this year when I go salmon fishing. I really like the way this handgun fits my hand and thought the 41 magnum would be a great addition to my other handguns. I do not know much about Taurus handguns and any information provided will be greatly appreciated.

If you are going with a Taurus for bears, I would recommend a raging bull, they are the only Taurus that has great known reliability. Lots of others have had issues. I own a raging bull in .454 and it has been a great handgun, I also have a M444, which has been pain in the but, lots of work on it by myself. Make sure you put a box through it before you decide, to make sure it cycles smoothly and all of that. I would call $300 a fair price for that firearm if it is in good shape, most new ones go for $375-$400 usually.

Thanks for the information. Most of the time I carry my Ruger Redhawk 45LC or my Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag or my Glock Model 20 in 10mm all loaded heavy when I go out fishing. I have some family coming up this summer so I thought I would pick up another good handgun.

I used to carry a smith model 29 .44mag, until I stepped up to the Raging Bull .454 casull. If I go on long hikes, I usually carry my ultralite taurus .44mag. I've had some problems with the ultralite, but I think I've fixed them, they were mostly smoothness problems, never had anything break, and it always shoots. And I understand about the family, when I have friends and family come visit, we always arm to the teeth when going out. Me and a buddy hiked the russian lakes trail last summer, and in camp, he went to go do dishes, and a brown came up when he was doing it, he had left his .44 at camp. There was no problem, but that's why I find it's necessary to have a gun at all times, especially if you are going to be separated at times.
