Switching barrels
« on: March 24, 2006, 11:34:47 PM »
Is there a secret to aligning the hinge pin with the stock and barrell.  The tolerances (not complaining) are so tight that it can be a pain to switch barrels.  My 50 cal. barrell installs fine but my shotgun barrel is a bitch to install.  Not sure if that shotgun barrel hole might need some reaming?

Do not ream that hole, you will make the barrel fit to the frame loose and therefor cause inaccuracy. Most guys I know like that tight fit.  :D
If  you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

My pins are tight too, and I like 'em that way.  I have a drift with a nylon face that I use to tap my pins out with, and when I replace them I lube the pins and the holes moderately with Break-Free CPL.  I tap the pins in gently with a small nylon faced hammer.  Yeah, it takes a little more effort than dismounting or mounting barrels on some of my other break action rifles and shotguns, but I see no downside to having that precise fit and it's really not that much of a job for me to change barrels.  I don't change all that often.   :D
