Tikka - Need an aftermerket pad
« on: March 23, 2006, 12:43:52 PM »
I have a Tikka 338 win mag LAMINATE (gray)stock that has a hard pad on it that Tikka instaled at the factory.

I want to replace the hard factory pad with a Sims.

Sims sell a pad that fits the "lite" SYNTHETIC stock, that will match up well and have a "factory" look without the need to grind it down.

So, the big question which is - will the sims pad for the synthetic ALSO match right up to the laminate and still have the "factory" fit/appearance without having to grind it.

I do not have access to a plastic Tikka, so I can't compare the 2 side by side to see for myself.

I believe there is a different pad for the laminate stock. I have a Tikka with the wood stock and the pad for the syn. stock would not fit it. Each Limbsaver package will tell you which stock it fits. Also check the the limbsaver web site. I think the syn. pad will be too narrow for the lam. stock.

Thanks prophet

I have yet to find a sims part # that will just slap onto the laminate. This must be unchartered waters cuz nobody I can find has done what I am hoping to do.

In case others with the same dilema reading this are wondering what to do, here's what Sims vl told me over the phone...

They will send me the booklet with butt templates for every stock they make 'em for. Now take off the factory Tikka pad and start laying it on the different templates. You may find that you will get a better match with another rifles template, such as remmy, or whatever. Then look for holes on the spacer, if so desired. This should prevent having to play the grind game.

When/if I find the perfect match on the Sims to a Tikka laminate, I will report back. I know I can't be the only guy out here wanting to do this.

You can print the templates off their web site...

Hey, that's another good idea. Just make sure the print is NOT set to "fit to page". Actual life size scale is a must.
