What you need to do is talk to the fellow and let him know you may be interested, but need some information first, and you'll talk to him later. Tell him that you need to know the make, the model, the caliber, about when it was bought and was it new, or used, when bought. After finding out that information, then come back on this forum and ask questions with the information you have. No one here, or anywhere else, is about to tell you a thing without you supplying needed information. It is just as simple as that. If the gentleman who owns the rifle now says he does not remember, or know, then ask to look at it. The manufacturer, the model, as well as the model number and caliber should be somewhere on the rifle. By looking at it you can readily tell if it is a bolt action, or a lever action. Take the time to get some information on the rifle and I'm certain folks here would be more than happy to help you from there. Tom Purdom
