My criterea are:
1. Acurrate
2.light weight (6 pounds or less)
3. stainless
4. synthetic stock
5. moderately priced
6. overall quality

Thanks all

You can get a package series from Savage for around $500 or less.
16FXP3 weights in at 6.5lbs.

Might be a good place to start.

I would recommend the Tikka T3 Lite Stainless.  It weighs 6 lbs 3 oz. but to find a rifle that is any lighter, I think you will have to spend quite a bit more money.  The T3 comes with a MOA guarantee, costs $600 or less, and has the best fit and finish that you can get in this price range.

Thanks all
I have a small hatred for savage rifles. I have never handled/fired one that I liked or was impressed with.
That Tikka sounds nice. I will have to look into them. Made in Finland right?
Thanks again

I would suggest the Rem. Model  7. I've had one in the 7-08 for years and I love it. I plan to give it to my grandson this year. I have already replaced it with a Kimber Montana in the 7-08. The Kimber would be a great choice but it is not moderately priced.

I am really liking what I am hearing about the Tikkas. I like the T3 Stainless Lite model in .223. Does anyone know if Sportsmans Warehouse carries them?

G2 Contender if a single shot is not out of the question. I have an older Contender with a 20" barrel that packs just great.   KN

Biscuits, I'm sorry the Rem.7 does not come in the 223. However the Tikka would be hard to beat. I have one in a 270WSM and it is a real shooter.

Yes, the sportsmans warehouse carries Tikkas.  At the one I go to, the Tikka T3 Lite costs $499 and the T3 Lite Stainless costs $599.  Remember, these rifles come with scope rings.

I was able to check the Tikka's out in two places today. I like them just OK. Don't care for all the plastic(on rear of bolt, magazine, ect.), and mostly I don't like how they have a long action even for the .223. Also the rifle is a little longer than I would like and not extremly light weight. The rings look kind of crappy and not a very sturdy overall mounting system.
I did however fall in love with a 14.5" Bushmaster M4 Carbine AR-15 that I handled at Sportsmans. Im sure I will catch a lot of crap from you bolt action guys about this but I sure liked it. I have fired my friends dad's 16" Bushy and while sighting it in we fired 3 shots in the same ragged hole @ 100yards! I think that is the gun I will by when I sell the guns I have on consignment. Thank you all for your help. It was much apreciated. God Bless
