This project isn't complete yet. I still have the pillars, steel bed, and sling swivels to install. In addition, I anticipate a Limbsaver recoil pad. I'm really hoping that once its all put together it shoots as good as it looks. I'm planning on submitting my process in an article to the forum when she's all done.

The rifle itself balances a little toward the muzzle end, which is what I like for stability. Maybe this is taboo, but the gap between the action and scope makes one heckuva handle too! Unplanned benefit I guess. The stock isn't totally perfect, there are a few minor run marks and some sanding marks still showing, but I'm happy with it. I may, down the road, look into having all of the blued parts sandblasted and refinished a matte black to match the scope, rings, and bases.

Barrel - A&B 338-06, blued, magnum profile
Stock - Boyds JRS finished w/ Tru Oil
Bases - Warne Maxima
Rings - Warne Maxima (medium height)
Scope - Zeiss Conquest 3-9 x 40 MC

Looks great, I like the looks of the stock. I may have to do the same to mine. I found the 225 grain Speer SPBT bullets shoot about the best. Saying that, I hunt Deer with the 200 grain HOTCOR Bullets and they do a great job.

As usual Max loads seem to shoot the best for me. Either way yuo will like the preformance on game.

very nice very nice..i did a 35 Whelen with an adams & bennett mag contour barrel & it shoots !!! 3 touch at 100 yds with a near full power load of IMR 4064 & a two-fifty gr bullet..That rifle of yours will be a thing of beauty & pride for many years to come...The best thing about savage rifles is the availabity of quality parts to the hobbyist gunsmith..For little $$ u get exactly what u want & u build it yourself..I hate waiting for gunsmiths to do work for me..I cant wait to see your article, best of luck..mike in ct

Ranger - very nice I'm jealous. I can remember the thread discussion your idea a few months ago. I went ahead with my project but chose the 35Whelen. I'll post my project in another thread.
