Price Check: 16 1/4" Bullberry Barrel
« on: March 13, 2006, 06:02:30 AM »
Hi all,

Need to find out if I got a smoking deal at the local gun show as I think I did.  Here is what I got for $260.00:

1) 16 1/4" Bullberry bull-barrel in blue in 25 Bullberry. This barrel is in excellent condition with the usual frame rub marks.
2) Set of Redding forming dies for 25 bullberry
3) Bullberry Walnut forearm with hanger bar for Bullberry barrel (very nice looking).
4) Blue Burris scope base and rings for the barrel.
5) 6 pages of hand written letters from Fred Smith (owner of Bullberry?) to past owner of the barrel. Fred was explaining the difference between the 25 Bullberry and the 7-30 waters. He goes into detail about the design, working pressures and velocity of the 25 Bullberry. These letters are date from 1989.
6) Target from Bullberry with groups shot by the barrel at the factory. Has hand written notes from Fred with what loads he was using.
7) All purchase receipts for the above items from 1989.

Did I get a good deal? I almost had a heart attack when I saw the hand written letters.

What do you guys think the real price of these items are?

Thanks,

Jason

16 1/4 " barrel is worth more than $300 new

no clue what a set of dies are worth but you can bet they are pricey $100

scope base and rings ...min $40

hand written notes...other than loading and forming info....worthless

wood and hanger bar set up....min  $50

you did well

Hang on to all the documentation and all the letters - If you decide to sell the barrel they can actually raise the value for a collector. Those that don't appreciate the paperwork won't pay for it but it does add value to the barrel.
