YEAH THEY LOOK CLUNKY BUT THAT'S WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THEM. THE FACT THAT IT WAS ONE OF, IF NOT THE FIRST PRODUCTION SEMI AUTOS MADE IS ALSO VERY INTRIGUING TO ME. GOT NOTHING AGAINST NEW GUNS, BUT I ALSO LIKE SOME HISTORY. ESPECIALLY OLD MILITARY STUFF.

I wrote a long reply and then somehow lost it when I tried to post it. I'll give it another try but this time not as long.

There are several different types of Broomhandles. The majority that we see are either German C-96's/Bolos sent to China or the Chinese copies. The German ones will have the Mauser markings and also Chinese markings. Just Chinese will have no German markings. There are alot of those which were sent to the US. The Chinese didn't take very good care of their pistols so they are mostly in poor condition. Most of the better ones you see will have been restored and not in original condition. Of course the most desirable pistol would be a German C-96 in good condition with no Chinese markings. They were chambered in 9mm and 30 Mauser. It's easy to tell because the 9mm had the red 9 on the grips while the 30 Mauser didn't. Also, the sights on the 9mm were adjustable to 500 m while the 30 Mausers to 1000 m. That gives you an idea how much more powerful the 30 Mauser was over the 9mm. The modern version is the 7.62x25 which is not identical but close enough to be fired in the Broomhandle, which you DO NOT want to do. It is much more powerful and can destroy the Broomhandle. The bolt is held in by a single pin that could fail and the bolt will come straight back like a projectile  .  Astra made some versions of the C-96 with detachable mags and also some full auto versions. The Chinese made a .45 version which was massive and is very rare in this country.

An original C-96 in good condition and with it's original stock/holster is very rare. After market stock/hoslters used to be available. I have two C-96's, one in 9mm and the other in 30 Mauser. I also have an after market stock I can use with both of them. The Broomhandle is one of the few pistols that can legally be used with an attachable stock. The Bolo is a smaller version of the C-96 and is common. Do a web search and you will find alot of info on the Broomhandles.

DON'T KNOW TOO MUCH ABOUT IT. IT IS UNIT MARKED, ON THE MAGAZINE (2.14.), SO I GUESS THAT MAKES IT A BRING BACK. MAUSER MANUFACTURE. MOSTLY MATCHING NUMBERS SO IT'S PRETTY MUCH A SHOOTER. STILL IS IN VERY NICE SHAPE. THE STOCK DIDN'T COME WITH THE GUN, I PURCHASED IT SEPERATELY. WHEN I SAW IT I HAD TO HAVE IT. I AM A CARPENTER BY TRADE AND THE HAND CARVING REALLY GOT MY ATTENTION. THE STOCK IS A CHINESE CLONE WITH MAUSER BRAND, VERY NICE. SUPPOSEDLY FROM MONGOLIA.

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A SITE WHERE I CAN LOOK UP THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE?[/quote]
