Well I just bought a Taurus Model 44 (44SS6) and cant wait to throw a few rounds out of it. Got it for deer hunting as an upgrade for the Dan Wesson 6" 357 Mag I currently use. It should put a world of hurt on any deer that walks near my stand this coming season.

:D I have the M44 SS 8 3/8". They are great guns, very accurate, dependable and comfortable to shoot with the ported barrel. Mine loves the 180 grain UMC shells. I can literaly shoot them into a ragged hole out to 50 yards and still keep a small group at 100. I had a Leupold 4x scope on it but had to take it off. The recoil was just destroying the scope finnish from sliding in the rings. I could not for the life of me keep the scope from sliding. Tried several different sets of rings, even did the locktite. Oh well she still shoots great with the irons.
I use the 240 grain Hornady XTP's for hunting. Their not as accurate as the 180 UMC's but still shoot very well. They work great on deer and ok on hogs. Next time i'll use 300 grain solids for the hogs.
You should be very happy with this gun. I'm so happy with mine I have another Taurus on layaway now a PT-92 9mm should have in a week or two. The only thing I don't like about mine is the NOISE i guess from the ports. Not bad at the range with muffs and or plugs. But when I hunt I don't wear anything and it only takes one shot to really hurt my ears. Be carefull about this, one shot and all I hear for 3-4 days is     BBBUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZIIIINNNNGGGGGGG

I bought some 240 grain Winchester and Magtech as a starting point to put through it. I will be reloading so I can try different weights and loads to get the most accurate. I will definately try the 180 grain UMCs. Thanks for the tip.

I have a PT92 and I think you will like it. I changed the rear sight to a LPA TPU29TS adjustable sight and found it very much worth the money. I dont really like the trigger travel but you get use to it. I can honestly say I have never had a stoppage or misfeed using a variety of ammo. I buy what ever happens to be on special. Just bought a case of Wolf 115gr steel case and have never put them through it before but am sure it will perform flawlessly.

I have the same thing but not SS. Bought it used in 96-ish. Shot a whitetail in 99. Will never part with it.
We must pass along/encourage hunting, shooting, the outdoors etcetera.

Same here I wheel and deal with a lot of my guns. Buy, sell, trade (ALL LEGALLY). I call it rotating stock. But one gun I never even think about touching is that SS Taurus.

It seems to be a fairly accurate gun after putting some 240 gr factory ammo through it. After 10-12 rounds the barrel does get very hot and does not seem to dissipate the heat very quickly at all. The SS finish a pain to clean unlike my SS PT92. The other thing is the front sight ramp just appears to have an orange sticker on it and it appears that it will easily lift off with use or a bit of CLP on it. Any suggestions to improve the front sight (ie painting etc) would be appreciated.

Overall though I believe this gun will certainly do the task accurately for its intended purpose, deer hunting.

mg66, do you have the matte stainless or the high polished? I have the high polished and it's a breeze to clean. I just scrub the barrel and chambers out with regular solvent. Extra scrubbing is needed on the front and rear of cylinder and in and around the ports (black soot). Then for the outer finish I wipe it down with an oily rag or sometimes I use a rag with stainless steel cleaner. The white foam stuff they sell in the grocery store for water fountains and such. After a few minutes of buffing down with either it comes out shining like a mirror.
As far as the orange sticker on the front sight, they must have changed this because mine never had a sticker. Mine has a piece of orange plastic permanently attached. It is however after hundreds of rounds starting to turn a darker color from being burned to death by the port torches. But itÂ’s still pretty bright, or bright enough.

Its more of a satin finish stainless. I wish it did have the plastic ramp insert as your picture shows. My Dan Wesson has that also. But my 44SS6 just has a day-glo orange sticker in a slight recess on the ramp. It works for the present but is rather cheap and nasty and I am sure it will peel off eventually.

Could not get a clear photo with my digital camera  so found one on the net which shows the detail a whole lot better. Not the same model but shows the detail.
