I just got my FN Mauser back from the gunsmith after having a new Douglas Premium installed in 25-06. The gun shoots great, but... It will not chamber once fired brass from my other guns of the same caliber even after full-length resizing. Is this unusual?? :?

I assume you are shooting factory ammo in your new barrel? If so I would guess that your 25/06 dies that you have may be a little over the minimum size for the cartrige, and your new barrel is on the extream low end of the size tollerance. Is the body too tight or is the headspace too short? KN

Your gunsmith did a wonderful job of putting a tight chamber in your new Douglas barrel. It is not uncommon for brass fired in one weapon not to chamber in another. The brass from your other weapons have expanded the base to a point where it will not fit in your chamber or they are longer than the chamber. Try trimming to the SAAMI trim length and chambering. If they are still tight then you can get a "Small Base" die and try that. The cases sized to fit the new chamber will be smaller than the chamber in your other weapons and the constant expansion and sizing will work the brass, shortening the life of your cases. It would be a good idea to just keep your brass segregated by weapon and use the brass fired in each weapon just for that weapon - neck sizing only.

Jerrl: I've run across the same dilemma, from the other side of the table. My .25/06 has a Douglas barrel on Springfield action. I helped my Dad build it back in 1963 or so, before Remington commercialized the round. It is very tolerant of case length, so much so that I never really gave case trimming much thought until last fall, when a friend with a new Ruger asked for help getting a handload for it. First thing I did was take some of my ammo out to the range with him. That didn't last long, for none of the rounds would lock down. I dug out some spent brass and trimmed to 2.48" (the "trim to" spec printed on my case length guage box). All these chambered up OK in the Ruger. Hope ya get yours sorted out. Love that .25/06.

Thanks guys for the imput. The more I shoot this rifle the more I like it. It is by far the most accurate hunting gun I have ever fired. Even with my tired old eyes I can get three rounds into one jagged hole at 100 yards. My home is in the Columbia MO area and I normally shoot a 30-06 but since I now have an artificial shoulder I thought the 25-06 might be a little kinder and gentler and it is. I used to load 117 gr. Sierras ahead of 55.6 gr of Winchester MRP but that powder is no longer available and I have started using 52.5 gr of XMR 4350. I am loading this into Win virgin brass with Win LR primers. I have noticed that the once fired brass has stretched very little.
