belgium browning 7mm mag
« on: February 28, 2006, 01:42:17 PM »
I have a gorgeous Bel. 7mm mag that I fell for as soon as I saw it.Only ONE problem. It won't group at all :(  I have tried rem 140gn factory, hornady 139 gn  sst (which will shoot a 1 inch group out of my 700 bdl).I tried shooting it clean, dirty, waiting 15 min between shots and I can only get 4-6 inch groups at 100 yards and most of the time 3-4 inch at 50.Needless to say,I took the hard kicking remington vs the much lighter Browning hunting just because I have confidence in the Rem. I read elsewhere that this cal in BAR likes heavy bullets.I just don't see the sence of shooting 175 gn bullets through a flat shooting gun. kinda defeats the purpose but thats just me.I am only gonna use it for deer.So 175 seems ALOT too much.Just wondering if anyone else has the same prob. All of the screws, mounts, rings are all tight. The scope came off of
another 7mm mag that would shoot 1 inch groups.SO I know its not the scope. Thanks for the response in advance ENCORE ROOKIE

sounds like either a bedding problem or maybe it just doesn't like the bullets/powder you are using.

that's pretty excessively wide grouping though...is the stock touching the barrel at all?

if you cannot find a problem with the rifle, first have someone else shoot it to make sure it's nothing you are doing. then try lighter bullets and different brands and see if that helps.

I have your answer but can't explain why it works. There is a white nylon type piece you will see when you take the forearm off. I think it has to due with the recoil mechanism. Anyways that piece cracks and accuracy goes south. We have  7mm Rem mag and  300 Win mag belgium Brownings in the family and this happened with both of them.
I would also recommend a good bore scrubbing with a good copper remover, I have had this help other rifles.

I would use a good quality copper remover ..Montana Extreme 50bmg comes to mind get all the copper out. I have one in 7mmRem mag with the Boss system and it shoots under an inch every time with boring regularity..Hornady 139 grain factory loads. If that front screw is not tightened down hard its not going to shoot well is about all I can say.
