comb height

ok, so I got my stevens 200.  STOKED.

bought a burriss FF II.  got some leupold STD bases and rings.  I got the medium rings, but the screw head on the reticle focus hit the base, not allowing the power to adjust all the way.  The mediums are at .77, high is .9 and extra high is 1.  so I went and got the extra high leupold STD, which adds .23 inches just to be sure.

I have the clearance I need, with some to spare, I dont think it is enough that I could have just gotten the high, I think it would have BARELY made it, so I got the extra high.

the stock is very straight combed to begin with, so I figured I would have eye to scope alignment  issues as I am tall (big neck?)  and have more monte carlo style stocks on my shotguns, higher combs.  SO, basically when I have good sight picture, especially with the higher rings, I am only barely snugged to the comb with my cheek.  When I bought a straight combed camo stock for my rem 1100 duck gun, I got the beartooth comb raising kit,  with good results.

Is there a better option for a hunting, scoped rifle?  I like the beartooth, fine for ducks, but for a solid scoped sight picture, it might be a bit "squishy" I think.  what about leather lace on comb raisers?  has anyone used one?

leather ones?
