Is it possible to discharge Remington 700 with bolt ...

...partially opened? Just curious.  What happens if it does discharge that way?

Don't think so. Uh if it did would depend on how far open. If even half of the recoil lugs were in contact I doubt anything bad would happen. If only 10% were engaged I'd say it would send the bolt at you like a missle.

I've had Remington 700s fail to fire when the bolt was just the slightest bit up from full down position. I don't think there is any danger of it firing unless bolt is where it should be.

I wouldn't try it... the whole explosion without compression on all sides but the barrel just scares me a little.
