Not a bad price either when one is on a budget, I bet they sell quite a few since there other rifles seem to shoot well.

Yesh, it's the "Wood Dip" synthetic stock,  I think that's why it's a little more expensive than the at store price of $244. People have been after Mossberg to release a short action ever sense they "introduced" the ATR.
I'm interested in hearing reports once people start buying them.

I didn't see the words "short action" anywhere in the Walmart material. Where did you see it?  :D

thats really nice rifle, for under 265, can't beat its accuracy, I shoot the synthetic black in 30-06 and they do 1/2" groups @ 100 (3 shots)

Your right I don't see those either. I am presuming that sense these are short action calibers they would have shortend the regular long actions  offered in 270 and 30-06.
However I suppose it's always possibile for them to have modified their original LA to fit these calibers, though I doubt it.
I'll email them and post the response.

I got confirmation back from Mossberg and here's what they said.

"Yes indeed, the new .308 and .243 models have true short actions."

I could be wrong but what I read was that the new short action ones have real, honest to goodness wood.

They are active items at Walmart so they can be ordered if Sports South has them in stock.  Can get the item numbers if anyone wants them (too lazy to go to the truck).

Humm, this time real wood. Good move if so. For this type of budget rifle I would take the Synthetic, but there are way too many wood lovers out there that this would appeal to.

I was hoping they would give us a .25-06... need one and its such a good deal for a good rifle.
