Shooting tips?
« on: February 17, 2006, 10:24:55 PM »
I've tried a search on this form and the internet trying to get some info on proper form, breathing, etc, but to no avail. Does anyone know of a book or web site that might have this info. I know the basics, but believe that I can do better. Usually I have two shots almost touching and the third will be about 1 1/2" off. Think I'm punching the trigger, but can't seem to stop. Looking for techinics to help.

Thanks,
Tom

Shooting tips?

I was not satisfied with my offhand rifle shooting and my one handed pistol shooting. I found these web sources very helpful: For rifle shooting, try www.pilkguns.com/rci.htm. The On the Firing Line series was particularly helpful to me. I also liked the pistol shooting help I got from www.pilkguns.com/pci.htm. There is a two part series called The vital problems of pistol shooting written by a Russian coach. Worked for me.
I'm wondering if your problem could be flinching. Generally, the first shot from a clean, cold barrel is off a bit, and the next two are right on. If the rifle you are shooting is a centerfire that recoils, you might have somebody load the rifle for you and give it to you empty once in a while without telling you and see if it still recoils when you pull the trigger. If it doesn't, it could be that the barrel bedding is causing problems as the barrel heats up. Or, perhaps the screws holding the rifle in the stock are loose. The scope or sights probably aren't the problem if she always hits dead center the first couple of shots.
