Barrel Lenght, Model Seven
« on: February 14, 2006, 09:26:58 AM »
Greeting all,  I have a few Remington firearms and one happens to be a 308 Model Seven with a Simmons 3-9 wide angle scope which I got back in 1989.  It's my favorite hiking/hunting gun and easily wins out over my BDL 7Mag.

My question is a simple one which may have been discussed before, so please forgive me.  Why in the heck did they lengthen the barrel to 20" over 18.5". That's the beauty of the Model Seven I think.

Just Wondering
Ben

Leaning over the hood of my jeep.  Not perfect, but good enough for me :D

I have no idea why they changed the barrel length. Maybe Greybeard would know something, he seems to know a lot.

Nice shots. Unfortunately Im spoiled by laying and using my bipod. Ive done it so much that it feels awkward to shoot any other way. I need 2 start shooting from different positions and become both competent and confident again.

Greater efficiency and I understand there were complaints about excessive muzzle flash.  I had one in 7-08 with the 18.5 barrel and didn't have a prob with either issue.  By the same token, I don't see where adding 1.5" is gonna create a problem.

18.5 vs 20

I had a Mohawk 600 in 308w/18'' barrel, the blast, flash and kick were a little unerving. If a 20'' tamed it a lttle, I'm for it. 2" more barrel won't hurt me.

Bought a Mod. 7 in 6mm when they first came out with the 18.5 in barrel. Later bought a Mod. 7 SS in 308 with the 20 in barrel. I dont see any difference when shooting, but do like the 6mm the best.
