CZ's announcing a new rifle in .300 Winchester Magnum
« on: February 09, 2006, 08:29:27 PM »
I just took a quick look tonight on the CZ-USA website and the company appears to be announcing The Ultimate Hunting Rifle, a CZ 550 rifle in .300 Winchester Magnum. The specs say it is guaranteed minute of angle accuracy at 1,000 yards, but there is no price or photo on the specs. Don't know if it is Turkish Walnut, American Walnut or composite stock. Anyway, a few more details are available on the CZ-USA website. Keep in mind that the company announced it was coming out with the 221 Fireball in the CZ 527 American and it took about a year for the rifle to actually be available. This one may be different. As far as there timing is concerned, most gun makes announce new guns and it takes awhile for them to hit the market. Look at S&W with the 500 Mag and 460 Mag.  :D

Looks like a real nice rifle. Sounds real accurate at 1000 yds. Just have to wait and see. :D

Some of us ex-military sniper types might play around with 1000 meter shots for the heck of it,but for me,here in Ohio,I can't find a place to do that type of shooting.I surely wouldn't take that kind a shot at a game animal. My 22-250 gives me all the range that I want for groundhogs.Besides,I don't have the eyes that I had in the Nam either. Now I have 60 year old eyes.I'm lucky if I can see the end of the barrel. :)

This gun is called the Ultimate Hunting Rifle, it's featured in Shooting Times this month.  I sent CZ a very critical email over this one: it needs to be at least offered in stainless, offered with a nice composite stock (McMillan would be nice), have usable express sights for those who want them, and come in .338 Win Mag as well. The article describes the gun as a blueprinted 550 with a slightly heavier barrel with tighter tolerances, along with a trued up scope mounting system.  Nice, but blued steel and wood stocks aren't anything I want for hunting the Pacific Northwest. With Winchester out of the game, CZ will own the market with true controlled round feed and could easily sell all the stainless/synthetic guns with express sights they could make.....especially if they offer the gun in different calibers. They make it I'll buy it.

Maybe it will happen.

Just browsing the CZUSA website, it appears they have all the new CZ550 Ultimate Hunting rifles ya can stand for a measly MSRP of $3150 starting in Sept 2006.

However they will come with a Nightforce scope, one piece scope mount and a hard case.

       WOW.  A large amount of that is the Nightforce scope I'd say. In any event, American Hunting Rifles builds their guns off of CZ actions, with stainless barrels and McMillan stocks. Even these customs are way cheaper than the "Ultimate Hunting Rifle" would most likely be, minus that spendy scope.

What a shame. I just want a stainless controlled round feed, REAL glass stock, some nice express sights, and .300 win or bigger without breaking the bank. Looks like I get to wait.
