CZ 550 American detachable magazine
« on: February 05, 2006, 06:33:34 PM »
Just for the heck of it, on another forum there's a fellow who asked a question about a CZ 550 and what people's opinion were of them. Well, I am a firm believer of the rifle, as well as a firm believer of the CZ 527 as well. Anyway, I posted my opinion about the rifles. Then this other fellow said he came across some CZ 550s in a store all with the detachable magazines had plastic detachable magazines. He said he wanted to give the rifles the benefit of the doubt so he picked one up, worked the bolt and said it had the most creep he had ever felt in a rifle, he put it back down and never looked back. I found the statement rather odd because Ididn't think CZ came out with an all plastic magazine in its CZ 550 line. I know that some of the CZ 550s, I think the 2000 and 2001 models had plastic floor plates, but not an all plastic magazine. So, is the magazine on the CZ 550s, the detachable magazine that is, all plastic. Or, is it part plastic. I'm just curious. I don't mind someone having a negative opinion of the rifles, or of any rifle for that matter. But if the CZ 550s have an all-steel magazine then the fellow is spreading some wrong information. Thanks for any replies ... Tom Purdom

I have seen this thread on 24hourcampfire.com. I don't know what this guy is talking about. I own a CZ 550 in .243 and mine has an all steel detachable magazine. There isn't a plastic piece on the magazine and it is beefy at that. I too had heard that at one time, the trap doors were plastic in the longer calibers but as far as mine goes, it's all steel....It's one reason I bought the gun....No cheap pot metal on the gun.

My 550 / .308 Mannlicher has an all steel magazine, the date that is stamped on the rifle is 04.

I have the 550 varmint with laminate stock in .308. (bought last year).
The detachable 4 round mag is made completely of metal and so are the
Spare mags that I have.

My friends 550 has an all metal maazine as well. CZ does have the habit of changing things in mid production sometimes without telling anyone.
