Does anyone have any running time shooting bullets coated with Lubalux? I have read several threads that state they are not the same as Moly coated bullets. But do they gum up your barrel? Is there a special cleaning procedure to clean your barrel after shooting these bullets? It seems all the Winchester bullets I am interested in (Accubond and Ballistic) have this coating. Should I stay away from these?

Lubalox is not the same as moly, but it is darn close, and identical in purpose. It is still a finish that is placed (or rather baked) on the outside of a bullet. As the bullet goes down the barrel, the Lubalox, just like moly, will wear off and leave its residue inside the barrel. Good luck trying to remove all of that junk.

It's difficult enough to remove copper from the inside of a barrel. Try complicating things by removing both copper and luablox, and/or moly.

My recommendation, stay away from moly, lubalox, or any other kind of "coating" and/or finish.

Had a rifle that all I shot thru it was the win. sup. Bal. Silver tips.
I am one of those that doesn't mess with barrel too much as long as it's shootin. Then clean when my groups start to open up. This gun shot well for several years, then when I cleaned you could see pitting that had started under the moly/ lub coating in the barrel. For this reason I don't shoot coated bullets anymore.

Thank you for the input. I don't see a reason to take chance with a good barrel new out of the box.

Was the barrel you experienced the pitting in staionless? What few Lubalox coated bullets I have shot are the Nosler 150 grain combined Tech in my 7x57. I actually havent noticed any build up of any sort, copper or Lubalox. My barrel is a pretty smooth stainless from Adams and Bennet.

I have used Hornady SST's in heavy mag/moly for several years. I do clean my barrel after every hunting season. I have found the new foaming bore cleaners to be fantastic at removing the copper and all residue.
