Accu-trigger retrofit?
« on: February 02, 2006, 03:14:34 PM »
I bought a heavy barrel 22-250 combo rifle a few years back, just before the accu-trigger came out.  My .300 WSM with accutrigger shoots like a dream, but that 22-250 is horrible.  The trigger is so heavy and rough, that I can't hold it on target even on sandbags when I squeeze.  Can an accu-trigger be retro fit to my older gun, or do I have to replace it?

KK, check the Savage Arms website under FAQ where I believe that it states that older rifles can not be retrofitted with the accutrigger. There are some aftermarket triggers but on the other hand, if you have not taken your rifle to have a good gunsmith work on it, he/she can reduce the pull down to a reasonable 3-4 lbs and possibly smooth it a tad. This is what I had done on my boy's Model 11 a year or two ago and it only ran me around $50.

Thanks mountainview!  Having the original trigger worked on was my next option, if I couldn't get the accutrigger.  I can't justify spending the money on Timney for a rifle that cost about as much as the trigger, no matter how good it shoots.

Mountainview is correct the Accutrigger recievers are machined differently.

Have you tried adjusting it yourself first? I've seen pics and instructions on another forum recently.

I thought a Timney or SSS trigger only cost $50. The SSS is especially sweet from what I read and it can be adjusted down to a few ounces.

I have Timney triggers on both of my Savages and they cost me in the $60 range.  It will cost you almost that much to have a gunsmith work over the factory trigger for you.
Good Shooting,

Think of the trigger in terms of an ongoing project u get to build a bit at a time..60 + or so for timney...86 for rifle basic...139.00 for rifle basic 2 ...If u have a good shooting savage action & barrel it is worth the money to improve it ..besides u can rebarrel it anytime u want... upgrade the stock or sights..I see no reason to ever sell a good shooting Savage bolt gun..Once u own it u can just keep on improving it!!! Get a new  tr :D igger & enjoy shooting that gun...mike in ct

Ah the beauty of owning a Savage rifle. With a handful of relatively inexpensive parts you can create about any configuration of bolt rifle you can dream of.

+1 for the Sharpshooter Supply Savage trigger....but mine cost me $90.
