CZ-USA discontinued
« on: January 30, 2006, 03:49:51 PM »
Was checking out CZ's website the other day and noticed their USA made rifles had been discontinued.  I assume they just weren't selling well.  Don't own any CZ guns (they don't offer much for southpaws, and what little they did is no more).  I recall their US made rifles were considerably more expensive than the rifles they import.  I never knew if they were worth it or not.  Did they have their own factory or contract the manufacturing to someone else?  I would have liked to get one of their cheaper imports if they had a left-handed action.

I think the American rifles were built by Montana Rifle Co. under a contract. CZ operates the largest small arms factory in the world at Uhersky Brod, Czech Republic. They are big worldwide with the exception of the U.S. and they make very good rifles.

Abner is correct, the CZ guns in question were made by Montana Rifle Company.

Regarding Sodbusters question about quality, I have no first hand knowledge.  I do know Wayne at Oregunsmithing builds customs off of Montana actions, and other than being heavy guns (he specializes in lightweight Remington customs) he has no complaints.  They are cast receivers, using the same process Ruger uses or so I'm told.

CZ need to get a clue and make a nice hunter off their 550 action in all stainless steel with a decent glass stock like a McMillan. With Winchester done for, they'd have no competition for true controlled round feed in a quality gun.
