30-06 probably doesn't do anything the best, but does almost everything!!!!!!    Buckfever

None of these offer much advantage over the other. With the exception of gun nut's it kinda sounds like either you like what you have or you like a particular model rifle.  For myself, i'm not real sure other than it wouldn't be a 30-06 (every body shoot's one) and it wouldn't be a magnum. I'm   not a 270 fan so it would be a 25, 6.5 or 7mm. Take your pick.

Don, the advantage of the .260 over some of the others is low recoil.  If I only have one gun, I want it to be a one with a light recoil.    My big gun I don't shoot that often.

If it's whitetail and whitetail only, then the 6.5x55 would be my favorite.  But, if it's to double for other species, then make it a 30-06!

.30-06  If you had asked for only one rifle for anything, still, .30-06

Although I'd hate to have to hunt with one caliber for the rest of my life, I'd be happy with the good 'ol .270 Winchester.

I prefer the 110mm smooth bore with the depleted uranium projectile although the 30 mm chain gun is a close second.

A 308 light short action bolt rifle. Choose the 308 for ample cheap or expensive ammo and fun to reload. The 308 is the original short action magnum.
