sears mod 53a / winchester model 670
« on: January 24, 2006, 06:28:48 PM »
I found a sears model 53a aka winchester model 670 in a 30-06.  The gun looks in great shape.  It does not look like it ever had a scope mounted.
The pawn shop says nobody will buy it because of the sears name on the barrel.  Do any of you have any input on the rifle before I take the plunge?  It will be a back-up hunting gun.  The price tag says $240 but I was going to start at $150 and haggle.  My other option is to hit wally world and pick up another 700adl that they have on clearance for $299.

If it were me I would go ahead and start haggling.  Who cares if Sear is on the barrel?  I always say "Handsome is as Handsome does".  The 670 is a model 70 with blind magazine and are a good rifle.
Good Shooting,
George

You miss out on some nice rifles if you restrict yourself to brand name shopping. My most accurate 30-06 was a J.C. Higgins model 51L. (a Husquvarna action, High Standard barrel) I got it cheap because nobody else wanted to own a J.C. Higgins. I also had a very accurate Herter's U9 (BSA) If the 670 was an OK rifle, chances are the Sears version would be OK also. Check it out like you would any used rifle.

Sears 670 Winchester

I once had a 670 Winchester and can say that my experience with it was great.  If it were here, I'd have to say that I'd be elbowing you outa the way to get it first.

By the way, unrelated to the 670 that I owned, I have a very nice 670 Win. 30-06 barrel you can get cheap, if you decide that you just can't stand the word "Sears".

Good luck,
Bob
