How tight should stock screws be?
« on: March 16, 2003, 12:59:09 PM »
I just replaced a Remington 700 ADL wood stock with a factory Remington Synthetic stock. How tight should the screws be in the stock and trigger guard area? I have them hand tight but I probably could go a little tighter. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.......

On the Remington ADL the front screw should be very tight, the rear screw should be just very snug and the center screw(holds the front of the triggerguard, just barely above finger tight.  The middle screw can really play hob with accuracy if overtightened, the other 2 are less sensitive.  Make the front tighter than the rear and the center, just barely.  I have even gone to the trouble to eliminate the center screws being screwed into the action altogether..  eliminates one more problem..
