i was just looking at a hornady manual for a faster powder and seen H4895 was listed for 30-06 . i don't have the manual with me at the moment. do you have a manual? you hear both ways. faster powders for pistol length barrels are generally the rule. but i've heard others say they had success with rifle loads in short barrels. it's worth checking into and experimenting, if your after accuracy. i like the H4895 in my 7-08 so far. the 4350 powders, IMR and HODGDON are slow powders for big guns like .270 and 30-06 rifles. it may work fine in your pistol or it may do better with a faster powder. you'll just have to try it to see. in my 7-08 the rem. factory loads shoot flames out the barrel and are loud. the slower powder does not burn completely in a short barrel. the H4895 reloads are not as loud, and not as much muzzle flash. they are more accurate also. check a manual and look at the powder burn rate charts. some sites have burn rate charts also. i think Hodgdons does. pick a faster burning powder that is also listed for a 30-06, that still shows good velocity. myself i would look closely at H4895. i seen at stevespages.com that H4895 is listed as the most accurate for 150gr bullets in .308 handgun. the 30-06 was not listed there.
